CFL bulbs (or compact fluorescent light bulbs) are a terrific, low cost way to make an immediate impact on your power bill while still enjoying the same amount of light you would receive from an old fashioned incandescent bulb.
The compact fluorescent light bulb consumes approximately 1/4 of the power while providing the same candlepower as a much higher wattage incandescent bulb. For this reason, these energy saving light bulbs always list their own wattage and the equivalent wattage for the amount of light produced.
